Spradlin Family
A fun early fall photo shoot with a sweet family.
I am beyond thrilled with how this maternity session turned out!

I remember thinking "I don't know what to photograph today" when I realized it was April 5th. But I toted my camera around and let the day happen. I don't remember why we were all in my bedroom. That doesn't happen very often. But we were and the kids started jumping on the bed and I'm in love with the resulting pictures, most of which ended up being just Eva sitting on the bed. We also did a science experiment on erosion later in the day.
I have one picture from this day. I spent the day at a church near Cincinnati with our church's teens. They participated in a teen talent contest. Lots of musical entries, some preaching, Bible quizzing and sword drills, artwork and stories. We have some talented teens! It was a fun day. I took my camera and snapped some shots here and there, but mostly just enjoyed being there and supporting our youth.
Well, I thought January's post was late! I'm just now getting around to posting my February pictures. I can't really say why I haven't except for life. Things get busy, I was working on other stuff, or tired, or whatever. I'm taking pictures today, as it's the 5th of April and realizing how little I've picked up my cameras in the past couple months. :( Anyway, here are my shots from February.
Simon started taking piano lessons at the beginning of the school year. I'm happy that he is enjoying them and usually practices without me having to tell him!
This is an activity for school. We were learning about Galileo and experiments he did with the pendulum, so we tried one of our own. As usual, it didn't work like it was supposed to. But I am getting better at not giving up right away and trying to find ways to make it work.
So.......I'm a little late with my pictures this month. But we've been a little busy - doctor's appointments, sick kids, surgery and everything else to keep up with. Don't worry, everyone's fine and we are starting to get back to a normal schedule. Eva ended up in most of my shots this month. Enjoy!
Eva is just like her grandma - she loves to be barefoot.
A stop at the library to pick up a pile of books I had on reserve. We looooove the library and I use this service all the time. It's such a time saver.
The kids will sit and look through the new library books for quite awhile when we get home with a new stack.
Getting ready for "nap time." She's pretty much given up naps, but doesn't complain about going in her room for some quiet time. We always start with a story.
December 5th was a Saturday and a busy one for us. We started our morning with a foggy drive to Home Depot for their monthly kids' workshop. All three of ours now participate in this wonderful free event as often as we can. I highly recommend it! We spent the afternoon in Piqua with friends and happened upon a Christmas parade downtown. I had to convince the boys to go, but the candy and stuffed animals made it worth it. We tried to go to Charleston Falls in the evening, but after sitting in traffic for 30 minutes, we gave up. A visit with Santa and hot chocolate with friends made for a nice evening.
I've read many blog posts and photography articles about ideas for and the importance of pursuing personal projects as a photographer. I'd try them all if I had all the time in the world. I did try the Project 365 - taking a picture every day for a year - about three times. I made it through January this year. So, for now, I've decided a more attainable goal will be to take one day a month and photograph my life that day. I've chosen the 5th of each month because my birthday is on the 5th of May.
November was the first month of this project. It was slightly more difficult than I anticipated. Once I pick up a camera and start shooting, I kind of get lost in my head and in looking through the lens. I can't really do that when I'm the only adult with my kids all day, and I'm supposed to be teaching them school. Here are the selections from November 5, 2015.
Eva at breakfast
It was (I say was, because we've since changed our policy on this) the boys' morning ritual to use their iPad time while I got breakfast ready. I guess the games can get a little intense.
It was such a nice day for early November and we were already down near Tipp City for a homeschool gym class. We went to Charleston Falls with friends after the class to enjoy the weather and a hike. The boys found these hedgeapples.
Crawling through a tunnel of branches they found off the path.
Trying to be artsy
I enjoyed photographing this cute little one-year-old the other week, while the weather was still warm enough to enjoy being outside. She did a great job for me and I'm so pleased with her pictures.
3 month pictures of a sweet baby named Colton. We had a beautiful fall afternoon for pictures and he was a great baby - no tears. :)
I really enjoyed spending an afternoon photographing this family. Their little guy turned one this summer, so they wanted some shots of him and a new family picture. One-year-old boys don't stay still very long, but we still got some nice moments.

A Project 365 has become a pretty typical thing in the photography community. The goal is to take at least one picture a day for the whole year. I tried this in 2009 and made it until sometime in the summer, when I stopped completely. I tried again last year and probably made it 5 days. I just got a new camera and really would like to keep shooting when I can, so I'm going to try again this year. Ideally, I'll be able to work on different skills throughout the year with this project - but I do have three kids, I homeschool them, teach Sunday school and have a house I try to keep somewhat clean - so realistically I'll be lucky to remember to grab a shot each day. If you check in on this project, you'll probably mostly see pictures of my kids. If nothing else, I'll have a neat record of this year when it's all said and done.
